Rotaract Mississauga Presents the 7th Annual Singfest

On Saturday, July 14, 2018 Rotaract Mississauga held its 7th Annual Singfest at Mississauga Rotary Ribfest at Memorial Park at Port Credit. Rotaract Singfest is a singing competition for young performers between the ages of 13 and 30, giving them an opportunity to showcase their talent live at a local community event. Rotaract Singfest has been moved to a headline slot on the main stage and we expect an audience of approximately 20,000 people.

All the contestants were extremely talented and brought something different to the table. While all the performances were amazing, the runners up were awarded to Melanie for ages 13-18 and Tamara for ages 19-30, and the grand prize winners were Alexa Frankian for ages 13-18 and Allii Mariie for ages 19-30.

We would like to thank all of our sponsors, which made this day possible, especially MetalWorks Studio, Nehal Mehra and Ashton Harilal. For additional information about our sponsors please see the links below.

Singfest 2018 Winners

Solo Ages 13-18 Runner Up

Melanie Cabral

Melanie Cabral is 15 years old and lives in Mississauga. She began singing at 4 years old and plans on having a career in singing in the future. She has been taking vocal lessons for 5 years and believes she has become a better vocalist and performer.

She enjoys competing in signing competitions and she made it to the finals for “The Singing contest with John Santos” and won second in “Teens Got Talent 2017.”

She is inspired by her vocal teacher, who has helped her prepare for many performances and helped her become more confident in herself. Melanie really enjoys singing and performing and she can’t imagine doing anything else.

Solo Ages 19-30 Runner Up

Tamara Baltaji

Tamara is currently a university student and enjoys studying biology, loves cats as well as singing. She started signing at the age of 7 and continues to sing to this very day. She is very thankful for this opportunity to share her passion with you and is very excited to perform at Singfest this year.

Solo Ages 13-18 Winner

Alexa Frankian

At the very young age of 17, Alexa’s warm soprano voice is already hailed as one of great promise. Born right here in Mississauga to a Mon of German and East Indian descent, and an Armenian father from Lebanon of Egyptian and Syrian background, Alexa has the blood of many nations running through her.

Alexa studied in Italy last summer, has won many scholarships and competitions, and is now set to begin her formal opera performance studies at the University of Toronto. When you hear her, you’d never think Alexa was just introduced to opera three years ago, when she saw her first opera while travelling in Chicago.

Alexa realized on the spot that being on a stage, singing opera and crossing over into genres, is what she wants to do for the rest of her life.

Solo Ages 19-30 Winner

Allii Mariie

Allii Mariie is a registered Early Childhood Educator and has always had a passion for singing. She takes part in local open mic nights, as well as musical theatre classes in the community. Allii was very excited to be a part of her first Fringe Festival in Hamilton last summer, as she shared her love and passion for the theatre with the audience and her fellow cast mates. Allii Mariie was very honoured to sing the National Anthem solo at the Living Arts Centre on Canada Day for the citizenship ceremony in 2017.

Allii Mariie also appeared in a nationwide McDonald’s commercial and co-hosted a day on the Adam Wylde Show on Kiss 92.5, performing at the end of the show.
