Singfest 2017
On Saturday, July 15, 2017, Rotaract Mississauga held its 6th annual Singfest event at Rotary’s Ribfest at Celebration Square in Mississauga. The competition was open to singers ages 13 to 26, with the top twenty contestants earning the chance to perform on the main stage at Celebration Square during the event. Our hosts for the day were Ashley and Jananee, Rotaract Mississauga’s President and Vice-President, respectively, for the 2017-2018 year. The contestants were divided into two age categories, 13-18 and 19-26, and evaluated by a panel of three judges on their Pitch, Tone Quality, Technique, Presentation and Originality.

Our panel of judges consisted of three incredibly talented and accomplished people in the music industry, which included Lead Guitarist and Vocalist from Beige Shelter - Adi Aman, MARTY Award Winning Guitarist and Rotarian - David O’Hearn and Vocal Coach - Anita Mijares.

All the contestants were extremely talented and brought something different to the stage. The Ribfest audience was able to enjoy hits from Pop and Rock hits to Disney Classics, as well as an original song by one of the contestants. There was a wide variety of music for the crowd and judges to enjoy.
After all contestants performed, the TOP 5 in each age category was chosen based on judge’s scores and fan voting. The TOP 5 all performed again to show the judges who really deserved to win the Grand Prize and be crowned Singfest 2017 Winner!
The final round was judged solely by the judges and based off their results the runner’s up were Cmagic5 for ages 13-18 and Nicole Garbanzos for ages 19-26. The grand prize winner for Ages 13-18 was awarded to Miranda Lacalamita and the winner for Ages 19-26 was awarded to Kendra Charest-French.
